Have I told you these kids are awesome? Wow! We have learned how to complete our calendar math page in our math journal. We are three stories into our reading books and we know that stories have characters, a setting and a problem to be solved. Our writing now includes paragraph form as well as having a beginning, middle and end to the stories we write. This week we are continuing to study matter by making apple sauce to observe a change in matter that is created when we apply heat to the solid (apples) and the liquid (water) that we have mixed together. Students are learning that rules and laws are made by local, state or federal governments. I know that your child may come without graded papers and or come to school without homework on Friday. Please don't panic. It takes time to teach responsibility and this will happen from time to time. You can keep an eye on grades by signing into Parent Portal (request directions from Mrs. Oliver in the office) for phone or email updates. If you don't have internet access or email, by all means, call me or send a note with any questions. My goal for your child is that they love school and are prepared for third grade at the same time. I am working diligently to ensure this happens by stacking the deck (let's be honest-I am looking for strengths to expand and misunderstanding about what we are learning to minimize) so that all students are successful. This will take some time but it is worth all the effort. You will see yellow cards and red cards and classwork to be completed at home in some cases but please view those things as growing pains for the next few weeks. If we run into trouble, I will give you a call as to why and work with you and your child to find a solution. Thank you for such a wonderful group of kids!
